The Songs of Gallus Line
Soft and Blue
Gallus Line
©1980, 2000

Dedicated to the loving memory of Bernell Hevner (called O'Donnell)

Refrain:
Seen from far away
Seems so soft and blue.
It's really no wonder,
Why they stop, and
Check it out, and
Then go away,
Go away.

Verses:
I sit on green hill,
Wind blows
Oceans before me:
Oceans of
Tall rye grass.
In the breezes
Ever blowing
My ocean.

Come away with me.
Take my hand.
Let us walk
Along a land,
Now brown and gold,
It needs rain, you know.
And the rain
Is slow in coming. Refrain.

I play this flute for no one.
No one hears its tune.
The notes fall about me as I play.
And neither am I lonely,
Or a fool
As some might say,
I'm something very near,
Yet far away.

I lie hear somber
With my face that never change.
I stare skyward,
From my mountain range.
And I know the hills around me,
Will always be there.
I know the hills around me,
Will always be.

Take my hand,
Come with me.
Let us walk along these strands,
Called ocean Pacific
Well it must be
What they see
When they roll on by.
